Lodging in a Nutshell |
by Diane Goldberg, Cleveland Correspondent |
The days when Cleveland was derisively deemed "the mistake on the lake" are history. Far from being a dirty industrial dump, Cleveland has recreated herself into an urban epicenter that is one of the top ten destinations for European tourists visiting the USA as well as a booming business center.
The much-mentioned Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is only part of the parade of attractions in the area. Cedar Point Amusement Park advertises itself as the Roller Coaster Capital of the World. The NASA Lewis Research Center attracts visitors from across the globe. The Great Lakes Science center has close to 350 interactive exhibits.
Cleveland is the business gateway to northern Ohio. Case Western University is an exciting center of research as well as the focal point of lots of travel to the city. And if that isn’t enough, there’s Cleveland Indian’s baseball, Browns Football and some of the best shopping in Ohio.
Tremont is the up-and-coming neighborhood for people interested in the cutting edge of Cleveland’s urban scene. It’s where the nightlife is interesting and the culture is contemporary. Lake Erie and the shoreway to the north and I-90 border the Detroit-Shoreway area to the south; it is where you’ll find some of Cleveland’s prettiest sights, Edgewood Park, and a lot of theatre and shopping areas. The Cudell-West Boulevard area boasts a beautiful blending of industrial and residential real estate along with West Boulevard itself, one of the city’s most scenic streets.
Cleveland is a major air transport center for the area and airport lodging is important. If you have a flight scheduled, it’s likely that the airport area is your best bet. The Ramada Inn Cleveland Airport is a good moderately priced option in the area. With an airport courtesy shuttle service and standard rooms at low rates, it meets the needs of business travelers on a budget.
The bulk of business travel zeros in on the downtown area. You’ll find space to spread out and a full range of suite services at the Embassy Suites downtown location; it’s a short saunter to the Convention Center, Playhouse Square and shopping areas. Like all Embassy Suites, you can bank on plenty of room, a complimentary breakfast and enough of an area to make a long-term stay very comfortable.
If you are combining business with pleasure, you’ll be delighted at the dual options available at the Wyndham Cleveland at Playhouse Square. The property features rooms designed to meet the needs of the business traveler with extras that include excellent lighting and long phone cords, as well as hair dryers and irons to help you stay spiffy. The Wyndham is in the center of Cleveland’s business and theater districts. You’ll be steps away from four Broadway style theaters, close to Jacob’s Field and near the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Case Western Reserve University and the Convention Center are also easily accessible. Top
