Best Time to Go
If you are interested in taking the shuttle up Lookout Mountain, it is recommended that you visit during the summer - the only time it runs. The world’s steepest incline railway, running from 3917 St. Elmo Ave. near the foot of the mountain (on bus route #14), runs all year long. January through March aren't the best months to visit, considering most of Chattanooga's attractions are outdoors. Try to visit during spring, summer, or even fall. Rated one of the top 25 Festivals in the Southeast, Riverbend takes place the second week of June; it’s a nine-day party with music, food, and family events.

Average Weather
Take your rain gear if you’re headed to Chattanooga. Every month sees a bit of rain, with the least precipitation falling in October (averaging over three inches), and the most falling in March, which averages six inches. January is the coldest month with average highs hitting the upper 40s and lows dropping to the high 20s. July is the warmest month, with highs of 89 degrees Fahrenheit and lows of 68 degrees. Spring and fall are mild and pleasant with averages in the 50s and 60s.

Transportation
American Airlines, Delta, Northwest and USA Airways all serve Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport. Avis, Budget, Hertz, National and Thrifty Car Rental all have airport outlets. You really need a car to get around Chattanooga.

In-Season Costs
Finding budget lodging is easy in Scenic City, where even a luxury room is priced under $200. You can easily find rooms in the $60 range. And, it's easy to lunch on a level beyond fast food in the $7 range, and dinner from $8 to $12 is the norm. Of course, Chattanooga does have a few exceptional restaurants where you can spend $20 on an entrée for an evening meal.

Day Trips
Nashville! Music City is just over two hours drive time up Interstate 24. You can easily spend a day shopping at Opryland Outlet, touring Belle Meade, or going to the Grand Ole Opry. Belle Meade is a beautiful Greek revival style plantation built in 1853. History buffs will also want to check out the Hermitage, the home of President Andrew Jackson. The Country Music Hall of Fame alone is worth the trip to Nashville.
