In 1878, James Irvine acquired his partners' interests for $150,000. His 110,000 acres stretched 23 miles from the Pacific Ocean to the Santa Ana River. Today, Irvine is one of the nation's largest planned urban communities and encompasses over 47 square miles. The current population is over 143,000. Thirty years ago, the City of Irvine was still in its infancy.
Today, Irvine has grown into what many describe as a "total destination.” From major theme parks, beaches, hiking, water sports, professional athletic teams, to culinary delights, all are found within minutes of Irvine.
Orange County averages over 70% of sunshine in its daylight hours and an average rainfall of 10-13 inches.
The Ladies Home Journal’s recent “Best Cities for Women” survey ranks Irvine as the fifth best “small city” in America. According to the article, contained in the April 2002 Ladies Home Journal, all cities in the survey were ranked on the qualities most important to women such as crime rates, education, childcare, and the presence of women in local government.
Orange County is home to some of the most impressive and challenging golf courses in the world. From ocean to canyon views, Orange County's golf courses and clubs offer great views and challenges to golfers of all levels. The City of Irvine is also considered a premier location for film projects due to its expansive areas, and state-of-the-art structures and facilities. Nearby Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm and the Santa Ana Zoo make it a great escape vacation for the family.
