Ocean City, Maryland, has a wide selection of accommodations. With over 10,000 hotel rooms and 25,000 condominium units and beach houses, there are options for every preference and pocketbook.
Known as the “East Coast's Number One Family Resort," the activities and events are varied as well. From sun worshipping to bicycling to game fishing, watersports and golf, there is something to please everyone. And the business traveler will not be disappointed either. The newly expanded Roland E. Powell Convention Center provides the perfect venue for conventions, shows and concerts. The center also houses Ocean City's new, attractive visitors center, a good place to start your visit to this seaside town.
Nature enthusiasts can enjoy cruises that provide an opportunity to view porpoises and whales off Ocean City's coast. A trip to nearby Assateague Island will introduce you to a natural treasure of barrier island life. And keep on the look out for the famous wild ponies that can be found wandering the beaches, roadways and trails of the island.
Watersports are one of the major attractions of Ocean City. Here you can enjoy sailing, kayaking, canoeing, jet-skiing, water skiing, parasailing and windsurfing, both in the bay as well as the ocean waters.
Visitors who enjoy seaside dining can choose from the resort’s more than 160 restaurants. Authentic Eastern Shore seafood is of course one of the specialties. An assortment of seafood favorites include steamed crabs, lobsters, oysters, clams, and a selection of fresh fish caught daily from ocean waters is always a delightful option for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The nightlife is also distinctive. Ocean City is host to nightclubs, pubs and dance spots, which feature music from blues to jazz, to top 40 and rock ‘n roll. Enjoy an evening stroll on Ocean City's famous and newly renovated Boardwalk, a three-mile promenade that is just as moving at sunset as it is at sunrise. Amusement rides, arcades, specialty shops and a vast assortment of treats including caramel popcorn, saltwater taffy and world-famous French fries make an evening stroll an adventure. Roller coasters and the oldest carousel on the East Coast will delight the kids of all ages.
Ocean City is also a host to a full schedule of events from festivals to concerts, antique shows and arts and crafts offerings, so plan your trip accordingly.
